Samia Suluhu Hassan on Monday held talks with candidates who contested the presidency in the 2025 Tanzania General Election, in a meeting aimed at strengthening political reconciliation and discussing the country’s development priorities.

The meeting, held at the State House Dar es Salaam on March 31, brought together leaders representing 16 political parties who sought consultations with the Head of State on the current political climate and the future direction of national development.

During the discussions, the leaders presented their views on strengthening multiparty democracy, maintaining peace and unity, and promoting national cohesion in the post-election period.

They also exchanged perspectives on how citizens can play a greater role in advancing development initiatives across the country.

The meeting focused on the importance of safeguarding Tanzania’s long-standing values of unity, stability and peaceful political engagement, which participants said remain essential for sustainable development.

Participants also emphasised the role of ethical leadership, accountability and respectful political competition as important pillars for maintaining political stability and advancing long-term national progress.

The leaders further highlighted the need for inclusive democracy that encourages broader participation of stakeholders in national affairs and development processes.

According to the discussions, a stable and united political environment is vital for sustaining economic growth and improving the welfare of citizens.

The meeting also stressed the importance of political tolerance, mutual respect and trust among political actors.

Participants noted that continued dialogue among political leaders can help address national challenges through consultation and cooperation.

They agreed that sustained engagement among political stakeholders is necessary to strengthen understanding and maintain political stability while the country implements its development agenda.

The talks reflect President Samia’s continued commitment to open dialogue and constructive engagement with political stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen reconciliation, promote national unity and support Tanzania’s democratic progress.
