The Chief Sheikh of the Shia Ithnaasharia Community in Tanzania (TIC), Hemedi Jalala, has backed the findings of the commission that investigated unrest linked to the October 29, 2025 General Election, saying its recommendations provide a pathway to restoring unity and stability.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, Sheikh Jalala said the report of the commission led by Mohamed Othman Chande offers practical solutions to address political and social divisions that emerged during and after the election period.
“Having gone through the report, I believe its recommendations will help resolve the current differences and challenges, and restore national unity,” he said.
He also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for announcing a national reconciliation process, describing it as a critical step in healing divisions across different social and political groups.
“Truly, we have gone through difficulties and challenges. What matters now is how we restore the nation to its normal state—how Tanzanians return to unity, solidarity and to a country that remains an island of peace,” he said.
Sheikh Jalala emphasised that reconciliation is essential not only for political stability but also for rebuilding trust among citizens, noting that inclusive participation will be key to the success of the process.
He further called on religious leaders across the country to take a leading role in promoting peace and reconciliation among their followers.
“Religious leaders must be at the forefront in preaching peace and reconciliation. If the recommendations of the commission are implemented and everyone participates in the process, our nation will remain safe, peaceful and united,” he said.
