President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has congratulated Simba SC for winning the 2026 Union Cup after a narrow 1-0 victory over Young Africans SC in the final.
The decisive match was played on April 29 at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, in a highly competitive encounter that attracted strong public interest and showcased the growing quality of Tanzanian football.
In her statement shared through social media, President Samia commended both teams for their discipline, determination, and sportsmanship, noting that football continues to play a vital role in strengthening unity among Tanzanians.
She further emphasized that sports go beyond entertainment, serving as an important platform that brings together citizens from both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar while reinforcing national cohesion and the spirit of the Union.
“I congratulate all eight clubs that participated in this tournament for demonstrating fair competition and enthusiasm that continues to strengthen the spirit of our Union,” said President Samia.
The Union Cup remains one of the key sporting events in the country, celebrating the unity between Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar while also providing a platform for clubs to showcase talent, develop players, and raise the standard of domestic football.
