The Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, has invited Members of Parliament to visit the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station through a digital experience, allowing them to witness the scale of electricity generation efforts without physically travelling to the site.

Speaking on April 20, 2026, while touring exhibition booths at the ongoing Energy Week at Parliament grounds in Dodoma, Ndejembi said the initiative aims to give lawmakers a closer understanding of the work being carried out by institutions under the Ministry of Energy.

He explained that the hydropower station, which generates a total of 2,115 megawatts, has been showcased using virtual reality technology.

This allows even those who have never visited the dam to experience its operations and appreciate the country’s efforts to expand electricity production.

Through the exhibitions, MPs are also getting a broader view of various energy projects and services delivered by the ministry and its agencies.

Ndejembi noted that the displays are designed to improve awareness and strengthen engagement between policymakers and implementers in the energy sector.

The minister further assured legislators that experts from the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited are available at the exhibition to receive and address concerns affecting citizens in their constituencies.

He said the presence of technical teams from different regions will help ensure faster follow-up and solutions to electricity-related challenges.

In addition, Ndejembi highlighted government efforts to promote clean cooking energy, noting that the exhibition features modern electric stoves that use minimal power while delivering efficient cooking.

Demonstrations at the event show how clean energy can be practically used in households, aligning with national goals to reduce reliance on traditional fuels.

The Energy Week exhibition is scheduled to run for four days, ahead of the presentation of the Ministry of Energy’s budget in Parliament on April 22, 2026.
