Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi has called on young people to safeguard unity, integrity and innovation as a way of honouring the legacy of the founding father, Julius Nyerere.
Dr Nchimbi made the call while opening a youth forum marking the 104th anniversary of Nyerere’s birth, held at Chimwaga Hall in Dodoma on April 11, 2026.
He said the current generation has a responsibility to strengthen economic, intellectual and decision-making independence in order to drive national development.
“To truly honour Mwalimu Nyerere, we must protect our peace, strengthen unity and build integrity in everything we do,” he said.
The Vice President described Nyerere as a unifying leader who played a key role in shaping Tanzania’s identity and contributing to Africa’s liberation struggles.
He said the founding leader strongly opposed corruption, misuse of power and injustice, while promoting human dignity and equal access to education for all citizens.
Dr Nchimbi noted that Nyerere laid a strong foundation of peace, stability and national cohesion, while warning against divisions based on ethnicity, religion or race.
He said the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan remains committed to preserving the unity and solidarity established by the founding father.
The forum brought together young people to discuss patriotism, accountability, responsible use of social media and how to utilise available opportunities for national development.
Dr Nchimbi urged the youth to actively participate in building the nation by embracing education, creativity and innovation, saying these are key tools for sustaining Tanzania’s progress.
