Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, has called on citizens to uphold unity, peace and solidarity, saying national stability depends on strong social cohesion.

Speaking on April 3, 2026, after attending Friday prayers and a special national prayer at the Mzee Ali Hassan Mwinyi Mosque in Mangapwani, Mwinyi urged citizens to reject discrimination and strengthen love and harmony within communities.

The prayers, organised by the Office of the Mufti of Zanzibar in collaboration with the Minister for Finance and Planning, Juma Malik Akil, were held to pray for the country, its leaders and the deceased.

Mwinyi said unity among citizens remains a key pillar for peace and stability, adding that every individual has a responsibility to safeguard these values.

He also called on believers to avoid groups that promote hatred and division, stressing that religious teachings encourage peace, tolerance and mutual respect.

The event was attended by the First Lady of Zanzibar, Mariam Mwinyi, leaders from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, religious leaders and members of the public.

After the prayers, Mwinyi, accompanied by government officials and worshippers, visited the grave of the late Ali Hassan Mwinyi to offer special prayers in his memory.
