The government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening vocational education as a major pathway for young people to access jobs and contribute to national development.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, said the establishment of a dedicated Ministry for Youth Development shows how seriously the government values young people in driving the economy forward.
He said vocational training through institutions such as VETA is especially important because it equips young people with practical skills that enable them to create jobs, produce goods, and participate in the modern economy instead of waiting for formal employment.
Prof. Mkenda made the remarks on April 29, 2026 in Dodoma during the 37th Meeting of the Ministry’s Workers Council.
He said the education sector remains a backbone of national development, and all plans must be implemented efficiently and on time to deliver real benefits to citizens.
He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the implementation of the 10-year compulsory education policy and the expansion of secondary schools and vocational training centres.
These efforts, he said, are being carried out in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) and the private sector.
According to him, the focus is to bring education services closer to communities and improve learning environments by investing in modern training facilities and equipment that match current labour market needs.
Prof. Mkenda also called on public servants in the Ministry to strengthen accountability, increase efficiency, and ensure citizens receive clear and accurate information about government programmes and achievements in education, science, and technology.
On her part, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Prof. Carolyne Nombo, said the government continues to improve human resource systems and public service management in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision for a more efficient and professional public service.
She said the Workers Council meeting is an important platform for reviewing plans and budgets, while also discussing good governance, staff welfare, and workplace safety to improve service delivery.
Prof. Nombo emphasized that teamwork, discipline, and integrity are essential in building public trust and improving performance.
She urged public servants to remain committed and patriotic in supporting education reforms that aim to transform lives and strengthen the economy.
She also praised members of the Workers Council for their contributions and encouraged them to continue improving internal systems within the Ministry to ensure better services for all Tanzanians.
