Former presidential aspirant in the 2025 General Election through the National League for Democracy (NLD), Doyo Hassan, has called on Tanzanians to exercise respect and responsibility when engaging with members of the Commission of Inquiry, urging citizens to avoid insults and public ridicule.
Doyo Hassan said members of such commissions are highly experienced professionals, many of whom are senior citizens with long service records in public administration, law, governance, and international institutions.
He noted that their expertise and exposure at both national and global levels make them well-suited to handle sensitive national matters entrusted to them.
He emphasized that continued disrespect and verbal attacks against commissioners undermine their dignity and may negatively affect public confidence in important national processes.
According to him, constructive criticism should be encouraged, but it must be expressed in a respectful and orderly manner.
Doyo Hassan further explained that commissions of inquiry are established to investigate issues of national importance and are composed of individuals carefully selected based on integrity, competence, and experience.
He said their work is crucial in supporting good governance, accountability, and national stability.
He also urged citizens to use proper communication channels when expressing concerns instead of resorting to insults, particularly on social media platforms.
He noted that while democracy allows freedom of expression, it also requires discipline, responsibility, and respect for public institutions and leaders.
He stressed that many commissioners have previously served in senior national and international roles, contributing significantly to development and governance reforms. Because of this background, he said, they deserve recognition and respect from the public.
Doyo Hassan warned that undermining such institutions through disrespectful behavior could weaken trust in national processes and affect efforts to strengthen governance systems.
He added that respectful engagement helps to build unity and encourages transparency in public affairs.
He also called on young people, who are highly active on digital platforms, to use social media responsibly by sharing factual information and avoiding content that promotes hostility or disrespect.
He said the country’s future depends on how well citizens uphold values of respect, unity, and national responsibility.
Doyo Hassan concluded by appealing for maturity among citizens, saying that national development is best achieved when people engage in constructive dialogue, respect institutions, and support efforts aimed at strengthening democracy and good governance.
