Secretary General of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ambassador Asha-Rose Migiro, has conveyed a message of goodwill from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali, reaffirming Tanzania’s longstanding support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The message was delivered during talks held on April 9, 2026, at President Ghali’s official residence in Ausserd Camp, Tindouf, Algeria, where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, including solidarity and liberation efforts in Africa.

Ambassador Migiro said Tanzania’s position on the Sahrawi question remains unchanged, noting that the country has consistently supported the right of the Sahrawi people to determine their own future.

She said this stance is rooted in the legacy of the nation’s founding president, Julius Nyerere, who championed African unity and the liberation of oppressed peoples.

President Ghali thanked President Samia for the message and for Tanzania’s participation in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, held on April 8, 2026, in Ausserd Camp.

He asked that his greetings be conveyed to President Samia, CCM and Tanzanians, while expressing appreciation for the continued support Tanzania has extended to the Sahrawi cause.

Ghali said the Sahrawi people recognise the role played by Mwalimu Nyerere in promoting African solidarity, adding that such support has remained a pillar in the struggle led by the Polisario Front to achieve self-rule.

The meeting underscored the strong historical ties between Tanzania and the Sahrawi Republic, built on shared values of unity, justice and the right to self-determination.
