Yas, a leading telecommunications company, has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development in Tanzania through a strategic partnership with the Volleyball Association aimed at identifying, nurturing, and promoting young talent across the country.
The company, which is already among the key sponsors of the national volleyball league, said the collaboration is designed to strengthen the sport’s growth while supporting players and referees at different levels of competition.
Speaking during the official introduction of the sponsorship, Yas Business Manager, Divine Amani Mark Mosi, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader vision of connecting communication services with sports development to empower young people.
He said Yas remains committed to ensuring that volleyball continues to grow into a more competitive and rewarding sport, creating opportunities for youth in terms of employment, exposure, and improved health through active participation.
As part of the initial support package, Yas will provide 250 medals to be awarded to players at the end of the league season. The company will also supply tents to protect players from harsh weather conditions during matches.
In addition, outstanding performers will benefit from monthly airtime bundles, with special recognition for the best male player, best female player, and best referee of the week.
Mosi added that discussions are still ongoing with the volleyball governing body to further strengthen the partnership and introduce additional support mechanisms aimed at improving the league.
“We are still in discussions with the association to enhance this cooperation. Once everything is finalized, we will officially announce more support initiatives,” he said.
He further called on other stakeholders in the private sector and sports industry to come forward and support volleyball, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential in raising the standard of the game in the country.
“Our goal is to make volleyball more visible, more competitive, and more beneficial to young people across Tanzania,” he added.
Best Six Volleyball Club player, Evance Masinga, who was named the male player of the match award winner, expressed his excitement after receiving the recognition, saying it serves as strong motivation to continue improving his performance.
He noted that seeing fellow players being recognized encouraged him to work harder in every match until he achieved his own breakthrough.
“I am very happy because this has always been my dream. I will continue to give my best in every game,” he said.
On the women’s side, Bandari player Sara Hengama, who was named best female player, attributed her success to discipline, consistency, and personal training beyond team sessions.
She encouraged young female athletes to take initiative in their development rather than relying solely on coaches.
“I am truly happy with this award. Hard work and discipline on the court are the key,” she said, urging others to remain dedicated and committed to regular practice.
