Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ashatu Kijaji, has arrived in Zimbabwe to take part in a high-level regional tourism conference focusing on women’s empowerment in Africa.
The three-day meeting, organised by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, will be held at Victoria Falls from April 29 to May 1, 2026.
Dr Kijaji was received on arrival by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Suzan S. Kaganda, ahead of the summit that is expected to bring together policymakers, tourism stakeholders and development partners from across Africa and beyond.
The conference will examine opportunities available to women in the tourism sector, the barriers limiting their full participation, and practical strategies to enhance their contribution to economic growth.
It comes at a time when African countries are increasingly looking to tourism as a driver of jobs and inclusive development.
Dr Kijaji is expected to join fellow ministers in a high-level panel discussion that will address how governments can strengthen women’s leadership and ensure equitable access to opportunities in the sector.
The forum will also provide a platform for sharing experiences, reviewing policy approaches and identifying best practices to promote inclusive and sustainable tourism.
Key discussions will centre on expanding women-led enterprises, improving access to finance and markets, and strengthening institutional support to unlock the sector’s full potential across the continent.
