Ilala District has delivered an impressive performance in the 2026 Uhuru Torch race, with all development projects presented for inspection receiving full approval, reflecting strong planning and effective use of public funds.

As the Uhuru Torch kicked off its Dar es Salaam leg, Ilala showcased seven strategic development projects worth over 52.08 billion, all of which were endorsed without a single rejection.

The achievement highlights growing efficiency in project implementation and oversight at the district level.

The Torch team undertook a series of activities, including inspections, project launches, and foundation stone laying, covering initiatives designed to improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth.

Among the key projects is the Kariakoo District Development Corporation (DDC) commercial complex, a major investment expected to strengthen trade and business operations in the city’s commercial hub.

Infrastructure development also featured prominently, with the construction of a tarmac road along Lindi Street set to ease mobility and enhance urban connectivity.

Access to essential services was another focus area, with the Ilala Kota water well project aimed at expanding reliable water supply, while the Mchikichini Health Centre is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare services for residents.

In the education sector, the new secondary school in Kitunda Relini will help address classroom shortages and support the government’s broader goal of expanding education access.

Meanwhile, the construction of Bonyokwa Police Station underscores efforts to reinforce safety and security within the community.

The Torch also recognized the contribution of local youth through the “Fighter” group, which provides motorcycle transport services, demonstrating the role of youth-led initiatives in job creation and economic empowerment.

Following the successful run in Ilala, the Uhuru Torch today, April 14, 2026, proceeds to Kigamboni District, where it will continue inspecting and inaugurating development projects.

The Uhuru Torch race continues to serve as a national symbol of unity, accountability, and inclusive development, carried under the guiding message: “Tanzania is ours, let us unite to bring development.”
