Government strengthens measures against dangerous and destructive wildlife

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzanian government is intensifying efforts to tackle challenges posed by dangerous and destructive wildlife, particularly elephants that invade homes and farmland.

New ranger posts are being established near protected areas to ensure a rapid response whenever wildlife threatens local communities.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba (MP) told Parliament in Dodoma that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is implementing these posts in high-risk areas to reduce damage caused by wildlife.

He added that the government is also using innovative methods, including drones, to drive animals away before they reach residential areas.

“To strengthen our response, more wildlife officers will be deployed in areas that currently lack sufficient personnel, while anti-poaching measures will continue to be enforced,” Dr. Nchemba said.

Dr. Nchemba also highlighted that Tanzania is a signatory to international treaties protecting endangered wildlife, ensuring that species such as elephants are neither killed nor exploited illegally.

These initiatives aim to protect communities, safeguard livelihoods, and promote peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
