A reconciliation and conflict resolution expert, Dr Dennis Mchunguzi, has endorsed the findings of the commission led by retired judge Mohamed Othman Chande, describing the report as professional and vital for national healing.

Speaking after reviewing the report, Dr Mchunguzi said the work reflects high levels of expertise and adherence to professional standards, noting that completing the assignment within 153 days required dedication and integrity.

“As an expert in reconciliation and peacebuilding, I can say this report has been prepared with great professionalism and in line with high academic standards,” he said.

He also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for forming the commission, saying the move demonstrated commitment to truth, justice, and long-term stability.

Dr Mchunguzi, however, expressed concern over the impact of the October 29, 2025 unrest, including loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property, extending condolences to affected families.

He said the report offers a strong foundation for rebuilding trust and promoting accountability, stressing that reconciliation remains the most effective path toward national recovery.

“Reconciliation is the path to healing. We must embrace it if we are to move forward as a united nation,” he said.

He supported the President’s call for unity and warned against forces that could exploit divisions, urging Tanzanians to remain vigilant.

“What happened has left a stain on the nation. We must ensure it never happens again,” he added.

Dr Mchunguzi welcomed plans to launch a national reconciliation process, saying it will help address divisions and guide broader reforms, including constitutional changes.

He called on citizens to support the process and participate actively when it begins.

“We should not resist reconciliation. This is what will rebuild our nation and take us forward,” he said.

His remarks come as Tanzania enters a period of reflection following the release of the report, with expectations that its recommendations will guide efforts toward unity, justice, and lasting peace.
