The government has unveiled a plan to create 1,439 new jobs in the energy sector while equipping more than 5,000 employees with skills to improve service delivery, in a move expected to strengthen the country’s growing demand for reliable energy.

Presenting the ministry’s budget in Parliament in Dodoma, Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to build a skilled and efficient workforce capable of driving transformation in the sector.

He said 5,207 employees will undergo both short-term and long-term training programmes, locally and abroad, to enhance their expertise in line with the fast-changing energy landscape.

In addition, 933 workers will be promoted as part of efforts to boost morale and increase productivity. The government is also working to improve working conditions in collaboration with the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance.

The minister noted that employee welfare remains a priority, with continued implementation of programmes aimed at safeguarding health and productivity.

These include initiatives to address non-communicable diseases, strengthen mental health support, prevent HIV/AIDS infections, and fight corruption through the use of digital systems.

At the same time, the government is expanding partnerships with the private sector to accelerate investment and improve energy access nationwide.

Key institutions involved include the Rural Energy Agency, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, and the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority.

The planned measures are expected to not only create employment opportunities but also enhance efficiency in the sector, ultimately supporting economic growth and improving the availability of energy services to Tanzanians.
