The Ministry of Energy has commended the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) for its continued efforts to ensure that Tanzania maintains a stable and sufficient supply of fuel, a move that supports economic activities and daily life across the country.

The praise was made on April 21, 2026, by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for petroleum and gas, Dr James Mataragio, during his visit to the PBPA exhibition pavilion at the ongoing Energy Week Exhibition held at the Parliament grounds in Dodoma.

Dr Mataragio said PBPA has been playing a key role in strengthening fuel security through proper planning, coordination, and management of fuel imports.

He noted that the agency’s work has helped the country avoid shortages and maintain steady supply despite fluctuations in the global energy market.

He added that reliable fuel availability is essential for supporting transport, industries, agriculture, and other key sectors that drive the national economy.

He further emphasized that the government is satisfied with the systems in place to ensure fuel is available at all times.

During the visit, PBPA Legal Manager, Lilian Rwegimbura, explained that the country currently has adequate fuel reserves.

She said there are about 42 million metric tonnes of fuel already in vessels and supply chains, while additional shipments continue to arrive to strengthen the national stock.

She noted that PBPA closely monitors international fuel markets and coordinates procurement to ensure Tanzania remains secure and stable in its energy supply.

The agency also works with stakeholders to ensure efficient distribution and transparency in the entire supply chain.

Dr Mataragio urged PBPA to continue strengthening coordination and improving systems that guarantee long-term energy security, saying this is important as the country continues to expand its industrial base and transport infrastructure.

The Energy Week Exhibition in Dodoma has brought together key players in the energy sector, including government institutions, private companies, and development partners, who are showcasing innovations and discussing strategies to improve energy access, reliability, and sustainability in Tanzania.
