The National Athletics Association (AT)said it needs 100m/- to successfully host this year’s National Championships in Pwani ,Coast Region from 29-30 of next month.
AT president Stephen Rogath Akhwali made the revelation in an exclusive interview with the Guardian news last week
"We need this money for trophies, accommodation of those coming from other corners of the country, advertising among other key expenses.
He said the choice of the venue was aimed at bringing the event to the center for all the participating
The AT President called upon companies, organizations and stakeholders to come forward to help his association materially and financially so that it can successfully host this year's National championships.
He recently said title sponsorship for the event is up for grabs.
The AT president further said his association is opening up for sponsors of the championship ,saying the aim is to give leading brands a chance to be part of the event and promotion and growth of athletics in the country.
“ We are appealing to companies to sponsor the National Championships , this is the good platform which will give companies and organizations a good venue for their brand visibility as many people from across the country and beyond will be following the event on various media channels,” he was quoted saying.
This will be the second time that Coast Region is hosting National athletics championships; the first time was in 2015.
According to media reports, Coast Region athletics Secretary General Elias Hotary is reported to have said they are well prepared to host the championships, saying its an honor for the region to host the maiden championships under Stephen (Rogath)leadership.
He said this demonstrates the significant progress made in sports organization and infrastructure development over the past years.
“ We are well prepared to host the National Championships next month ,it’s an honor to us and we will do our best to make the championship successful and memorable,” he was quoted saying .
Recently , the AT President told this publication that preparations for this year’s National athletics championships are at an advanced stage.
He said invitations have been extended to all regions in the country and they expect more than 300 athletes to compete in various track and field events.
He said the international athletics(WA) sanctioned championships will also be used to select athletes who will represent the country at various international events.
“ Preparations for the National Athletics are underway and are gaining momentum , it will be held at Filbert Bayi School in Kibaha ,Coast Region , we expect more than 300 athletes from across the country to compete in various field and track events,” he was quoted .
