Azam FC eye Muungano Cup glory after booking semi-final clash with Yanga

Azam FC have declared strong ambitions to lift the Muungano Cup after securing a place in the semi-finals, insisting that the real test of the tournament begins at this stage as they set their sights on becoming champions.

The team advanced to the last four following a solid 2-0 victory over KVZ in a quarter-final encounter played at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, a result that boosted their confidence ahead of a crucial semi-final challenge.

Azam will now face Young Africans SC (Yanga) on April 25 at the same venue, in a highly anticipated clash expected to draw significant attention from fans and stakeholders across Tanzanian football.

Azam FC Public Relations Officer Hasheem Ibwe said the club is fully focused on progressing to the final, stressing that their ultimate objective is to win the trophy.

Ibwe noted that the team has drawn motivation from their recent disappointment in the Mapinduzi Cup final, where they lost on penalties, saying the experience has strengthened their determination to avoid similar mistakes.

He added that the technical bench has already reviewed previous shortcomings, including squad selection decisions that saw U20 players featured in earlier matches, confirming that such approaches will not be repeated in the remaining fixtures.

“The coach has made it clear that the semi-final is a tough assignment, but we are well prepared. Our focus is to win and reach the final, where our target is to bring the trophy home and return as champions,” Ibwe said.

He also called on football fans across Tanzania to turn up in large numbers to support the semi-final, describing it as an important and competitive fixture that deserves strong public attention.

In the other semi-final, the winner between Mlandege FC and Singida Fountain Gate FC will advance to the final, while Simba SC are set to face KMKM FC (Mafunzo) in another decisive battle for a place in the championship match.

The Muungano Cup tournament continues to deliver intense competition as teams edge closer to the coveted title, with semi-final fixtures expected to produce high-quality and competitive football action.
