The Tanzania Olympics Committee (TOC)says its elective general meeting will be held in Dar es Salaam region mid of April this year.
TOC chairman of election advocate Ibrahim Mkwawa yesterday(Monday)said the elections will be held on 12 April in Dar es Salaam and post to be contested are that of President ,vice president and executive members .
He said the elections will be held after discussions between International Olympics Committee (IOC) Tanzania Register of Sports and TOC officials, where it was agreed that TOC must have election committee which is headed by him(Mkwawa)and appeals committee which is headed by lawyer Richard Sinantwa ,
Other members in election committee are Malangwe Nchungahela and Abdlahaman Hamis Ramadhan while those in appeals committee are Georgina Mulebia and Jamal Idi, the activities of the two committees will be overseen by TOC secretary general .
He said collection of forms will be from 14 to 27 March at TOC offices in Dar es Salaam and TOC Zanzibar offices , 28 is the day to return the forms at the above mentioned offices , securitizing of the candidates who filled the forms will be held on 29-30 of this month.
Further ,he said the list of aspirants will be made public on 31 of this month ,from 1-3 of April the election committee will receive appeals and from 4-6 his committee will decide on the appeals , on Seven March his committee will release names of those who will compete and the same day campaigns will start.
He said one the TOC executive is supposed to be made up of five members from each side Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar and each side must comprise two females and three males.
Mkwawa said those aspiring the post of president and vice should pay 1m/- while those of executive members are to pay 500,000/- for forms.
“ After all the discussions between the Register of Sports in the country, Tanzania Olympics Committee (TOC)and International Olympics Committee(IOC)they agreed that the elections be held on 14 April ,this is after amending some legal issues ,the place where the elections will be held will be announced later ,but its in Dar es Salaam,” he said .
The conference was attended by TOC top leaders who included Filbert Bayi and Henry Tandau who are the current TOC secretary general and Vice President respectively .
The elections were initially slated for Dodoma last year then shifted to Morogoro ,but it was also postponed, this prompted The international committee to wrote aordered TOC to have the elective general assembly this month without any further delay.
The letter signed by IOC president Jerome Poivey said "Further to our latest self explanatory communication below dated 28 February 2025 and our numerous telephone conversation over the past few months and weeks ,we wish to reiterate that your NOC (National Olympics Committee)should now proceed and convene its quadrennial Elective General Assembly (Which was due to take place initially in December 2024)without any further delay .
IOC said it has directed TOC to hold its elective general assembly after the (TOC)Constitutional has been adopted by the local committee general assembly which was held on December 28 last year.
Part of the IOC letter said "Consequently , we do not see any valid reason to keep postponing your NOC quadrennial elections ,which should now simply take place in accordance with Olympic charter and your NOC Constitution currently in force ,as adopted by your NOC general Assembly and approved by the IOC.
