The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, has taken decisive steps to address longstanding challenges facing traders at Mabibo Market.
On March 4, 2026, Prof. Shemdoe met with the traders at the PMO-RALG Magogoni offices in Dar es Salaam to listen to their concerns and discuss possible solutions.
The issues raised included traders being barred from the market by management, the need to restore commercial stalls, and a request for the market administration to be returned to the traders’ leadership.
Prof. Shemdoe assured the traders that their requests would be addressed within two weeks and pledged to meet them again once solutions have been implemented.
To ensure swift action, he appointed a special committee to handle the matter, chaired by Deputy Secretary in charge of Infrastructure, Engineer Rogatus Mativila.
The intervention follows directives from the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, after traders brought the matter to his attention.
Prof. Shemdoe’s engagement signals the government’s commitment to resolving trade disputes and supporting the interests of local business communities, reinforcing the importance of inclusive market governance for Dar es Salaam’s economic growth.
