The Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Kitila Mkumbo, has officially launched a stakeholders’ forum organized by the Public Private Partnership Centre (PPPC), stressing the importance of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving the country’s development goals.

At the event held early today 9th March 2026 in Dar es Salaam, Speaking during the opening of the forum, Prof. Mkumbo noted that cooperation between the two sectors plays a vital role in helping Tanzania attain its national development objectives and long-term economic vision.

He explained that Public Private Partnerships (PPP) provide an effective platform for mobilizing investment, promoting innovation, and accelerating the implementation of strategic development projects.

However, the minister pointed out that the pace of implementing PPP projects in the country remains relatively slow. He therefore called on the PPPC authority to ensure that projects with the characteristics suitable for the PPP model are not implemented through ordinary procurement systems by public institutions.

“Projects that qualify for the PPP framework should be implemented through that model in order to improve efficiency, transparency and attract wider participation from private investors,” Prof. Mkumbo emphasized.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the PPPC, David Kafulila, said the forum aims to strengthen stakeholders’ understanding of available opportunities within PPP projects while also creating a platform for dialogue on improving their implementation.

Kafulila explained that the forum is the first of its kind this year, bringing together participants from the private sector as well as institutions under the government to exchange ideas, experiences and strategies on enhancing PPP initiatives in Tanzania.

He further noted that such engagements are crucial for strengthening trust and cooperation between the government and private investors.

Through these discussions, stakeholders are able to identify challenges and opportunities within PPP frameworks, ultimately encouraging greater private sector participation in development projects.

The forum is expected to contribute positively to the national economy by stimulating investment, accelerating the implementation of key infrastructure and development projects, and creating new employment opportunities, all of which support Tanzania’s broader economic growth agenda.
