Lake Victoria Basin Water Board receives second borehole drilling rig

By The Respondents Reporter

The Lake Victoria Basin Water Board has received its second borehole drilling rig from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), in a move expected to strengthen water projects and improve access to clean water in several parts of the basin.

The equipment was officially received by the Board’s Director, Dr Renatus Shinhu, who said the new drilling rig will enhance the board’s capacity to implement water projects, particularly in areas facing water shortages.

The rig will be used to drill boreholes in different locations where the Lake Victoria Basin Water Board operates, supporting ongoing efforts to expand water supply infrastructure and ensure communities have reliable sources of clean and safe water.

Handing over the equipment, RUWASA Mara Regional Manager, Eng Charles Pambe, said the new machine will help speed up the implementation of water projects while improving service delivery to wananchi.

He noted that the availability of modern drilling equipment is crucial in addressing water challenges, especially in rural and remote areas where access to safe water remains limited.

Dr Shinhu thanked the Ministry of Water for strengthening the operational capacity of the basin board, saying the equipment will also support other key activities such as dam construction and groundwater development.

He said the additional drilling rig will enable the board to execute projects more efficiently, reduce delays in drilling boreholes and ultimately bring water services closer to communities.

The drilling equipment is a PRD Mounted Drilling Rig with Compressor PG 1100, registered as STM 5758.

It is equipped with several components including a mud pump, welding machine, drilling rods and pipes.

The equipment is supported by an operational truck registered as STM 2448, which facilitates the functioning of the drilling unit.

The government, through the Ministry of Water, continues to invest in strengthening water infrastructure as part of broader efforts to ensure clean and safe water services reach wananchi across the country.

The initiative aligns with national strategies aimed at expanding water supply coverage and improving the quality of life for Tanzanians.
