Finance Minister Ambassador Omar Omar has lauded Airtel Tanzania for its role in advancing the country’s communication and information technology sector, urging the telecom giant to increase investment to support Tanzania’s Vision 2050.

Speaking at an Iftar event hosted by Airtel Tanzania for its customers and community groups at Serena Hotel, Ambassador Omar described Airtel as a key partner of the Government in delivering modern communication services.

He called on the company to continue expanding its digital infrastructure, saying this would play a crucial role in driving economic growth and achieving the National Development Vision 2050.

“In pursuing Vision 2050, Tanzania aims to build a $1 trillion economy, with 70 percent of the funds expected from the private sector and 30 percent from the Government, including 8 percent from public institutions,” Ambassador Omar said.

He added that the Government will continue to create a business-friendly environment to strengthen public-private partnerships, ensuring the Vision 2050 goals are realized.

Airtel Tanzania Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Kamoto, said the company currently serves over 25 million customers and has invested heavily in digital infrastructure nationwide.

“By connecting communities to inclusive financial services, Airtel Tanzania has simplified transactions, boosted business, and stimulated economic activity across the country,” Mr. Kamoto said.
