The Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, has called on citizens in 40 councils across 10 regions Arusha, Mwanza, Kagera, Mara, Singida, Shinyanga, Geita, Rukwa, Tabora, and Simiyu to embrace and safeguard the Tanzania Gender Equality Advancement Project (PAMOJA).

The project aims to empower women economically and combat gender-based violence (GBV).

Dr. Gwajima made the call on March 8, 2026, in Geita during the official launch of PAMOJA, held as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.

“This five-year project, if properly embraced, implemented, and protected, will be a vital tool to economically empower women and reduce gender-based violence in the country,” she emphasized.

She directed the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. John Jingu, to ensure the PAMOJA Project Coordination Secretariat executes its duties effectively, guaranteeing that project benefits reach the intended communities.

He was also instructed to provide public updates to keep citizens informed about the project.

Dr. Gwajima highlighted that under the Sixth Phase Government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the government is partnering with the World Bank, which has provided a loan of USD 100 million and a grant of USD 4 million (equivalent to TZS 262 billion) to support the project nationwide.

The PAMOJA project, implemented by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) and the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children – Zanzibar, officially began on April 30, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude on February 28, 2029.
