The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, visited the Tunduma One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Songwe Region on 23 February 2026 to assess infrastructure developments and joint services between Tanzania and Zambia.
The visit focused on boosting trade and easing the movement of goods and passengers across the border.
Ambassador Kombo described the Tunduma border as a key economic gateway, playing a major role in promoting regional trade and supporting Tanzania’s national revenue.
He highlighted that ongoing infrastructure upgrades will speed up trade and lower transportation costs for businesses operating in the area.
The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), which oversees the border operations, was represented by Acting Songwe Regional Manager CPA Saidi Mwamloso and Tunduma Customs Manager Mr. Nsajigwa Mwambegele.
Both officials participated in the reception and provided updates on improvements in customs services and other border developments.
Mr. Mwambegele noted that the ongoing service and infrastructure enhancements aim to increase efficiency at the border through modern systems and stronger coordination among the agencies serving cross-border operations.
