Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) officers are set to undergo specialized training to boost their capacity in protecting and managing mangrove forest reserves, a move aimed at curbing illegal activities and safeguarding these vital coastal ecosystems against climate change impacts.

Opening the training, Nyamagana District Commissioner Amina Makilagi said the program will enhance the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of forest officers.

She emphasized that mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastlines, supporting marine life, and sustaining the livelihoods of communities along the shores.

DC Makilagi also commended TFS Commissioner of Conservation, Professor Dos Santos Silayo, for his commitment to forest protection, noting that his leadership has strengthened forest management and accelerated tree-planting programs across the country.

She further praised the collaboration between TFS officers and her office, saying it has been instrumental in curbing forest degradation, particularly in ecologically sensitive mangrove areas.

TFS Lake Zone Assistant Commissioner, Ebrantino Mgiye, thanked the Commissioner of Conservation for approving the training.

He highlighted that protecting mangrove forests is key to climate change mitigation, coastal protection, and biodiversity conservation.

The Commandant of the Marine Police College (MPC), SACP Ndagile Azaria Makubi, assured participants that the training will provide modern skills and techniques to combat marine crimes and effectively manage mangrove reserves.

The training reflects Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening natural resource protection while empowering officers with the expertise needed to safeguard the country’s unique ecosystems.
