The Ngorongoro Conservation Area on February 26, 2026 hosted a high-level delegation led by Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Paschal Katambi, and Zambia’s Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jacob Jack Mwiimbu, in a visit that underscored the growing regional cooperation and Tanzania’s strength in conservation tourism.

The two ministers arrived with a delegation of 170 members, including 70 officers from defence and security institutions who are in the country for official engagements.

Their visit combined official duties with a tour of one of Tanzania’s most treasured natural heritage sites.

While at Ngorongoro, the ministers and their delegation explored the world-renowned crater and witnessed the Big Five lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant alongside herds of zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, warthogs and hippos.

They also observed diverse bird species and indigenous vegetation that form part of the area’s unique ecosystem.

The delegation received detailed briefings on the geological history of the crater, conservation strategies and the site’s three international recognitions, which place Ngorongoro among the world’s most valued natural landscapes.

The area remains a key pillar of Tanzania’s tourism sector and a significant contributor to the national economy.

Katambi commended the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority for its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable tourism.

He said the effective conservation model safeguards biodiversity while maintaining Ngorongoro’s status as one of Africa’s leading tourist destinations.

The visit not only strengthened bilateral ties between Tanzania and Zambia but also highlighted the strategic role of conservation areas in promoting diplomacy, economic growth and regional collaboration.
