The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert John Chalamila, has inspected the construction of a multi storey secondary school project in Kinondoni District, valued at over TZS3.3 billion and expected to accommodate more than 1,500 students upon completion.

The project aims to reduce classroom congestion and address the challenge of students travelling long distances to access education, a situation that often contributes to fatigue and reduced learning efficiency.

It has been reported that the project has so far received less than Sh1 billion, with over Sh1 billion already utilized in various stages of construction.

Speaking during the inspection, Chalamila stressed the importance of close supervision of development projects by leaders to ensure efficiency, transparency, and prevention of corruption that may hinder public development.

While visiting the construction site of the new school named as Abbas Tarimba, the Regional Commissioner noted that the challenge of students sitting on the floor in classrooms is not solely caused by a lack of funds but also by inadequate planning.

He urged education officials to establish strong strategies to ensure desks are supplied on time and in sufficient numbers to meet students’ needs.

He also emphasized the importance of constructing dormitories in schools, explaining that such facilities would enable students to live closer to learning institutions, reducing lateness and exhaustion caused by daily long distance travel.

Chalamila further noted that the education sector remains among the key priorities of the government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, stressing that investment in education infrastructure is vital in preparing a competitive and productive workforce for national development.
