Councillors across Tanzania have been urged to serve citizens with humility and commitment, putting people’s needs and community development at the center of their work.
The call was made today by Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), while representing Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba at a working session with councillors held at CCM Headquarters Hall in Dodoma.
“As leaders, we must not be proud. We are elected to serve the people. As the Bible says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Leadership requires humility in every action,” Prof. Shemdoe said.
He commended councillors for passing a resolution praising President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her leadership, which has driven reforms across the economy, agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors, while improving social services, particularly for citizens in remote areas.
Speaking on behalf of councillors, Secretary of Councillors Hilda Kadunda highlighted their satisfaction with the President’s efforts to expand the economy, create jobs for youth, involve them in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, implement universal health insurance, and advance major infrastructure projects, including hydropower dams and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
CCM Headquarters Executive Secretary Adam Ngalawa reminded councillors and MPs that their role comes with a responsibility to lead communities effectively.
He stressed that their actions should reflect the vision of President Samia, warning that failing to do so risks undermining the President, the ruling party, and the citizens who elected them.
