Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof Riziki Shemdoe, has met with the newly appointed Regional Commissioners for Kagera and Mtwara to set priorities and align on the implementation of directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan aimed at strengthening efficiency and accountability in public service.
Prof Shemdoe held the meeting on February 9, 2026, at PMO-RALG’s offices in Dar es Salaam with Kagera Regional Commissioner Col Yahya Ramadhani Kido and Mtwara Regional Commissioner Col Donald William Msengi, shortly after they were sworn in by the President at State House in Magogoni.
During the discussion, the minister underscored the importance of accountability and effective leadership in meeting citizens’ expectations, particularly in the delivery of social services and the protection of people and their property.
He reminded the two leaders that the President expects visible improvements in governance and service delivery at the regional level.
Prof Shemdoe directed the new regional commissioners to ensure that all residents in their regions are registered in the residential database and to prioritise listening to and addressing citizens’ concerns.
He stressed that success would depend on close cooperation with existing leaders and public servants in their respective administrative areas.
The meeting marked the first step in operational planning following the appointments announced on February 6, 2026.
The changes are part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen performance, accountability and responsiveness in regional administration, in line with the growing needs and expectations of citizens.
