Preparations for the construction of the Longido–Siha road (53 km) and the Elerai–Kamwanga road (39.5 km) have been completed, with only initial payments pending before work can begin, the Deputy Minister of Works, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, has announced.
Eng. Kasekenya briefed the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, saying the roads will not only connect Longido District in Arusha Region with Siha District in Kilimanjaro Region but will also provide a shorter and more efficient route around Mount Kilimanjaro.
He noted that once completed and paved, the roads are expected to boost tourism in northern Tanzania, facilitating travel to major attractions including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Mount Kilimanjaro.
“The designs have been finalized, and in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives, these roads are set to strengthen the northern tourism corridor through a shorter route,” Eng. Kasekenya said.
The Deputy Minister made the remarks while addressing residents of Sinya Ward in Longido District during the ongoing visit of Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba to Arusha Region.
The construction of these strategic roads aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure and economic development agenda, aiming to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and stimulate local economies along the routes.
