Peace: The pillar of human life and development

By The Respondents Reporter

Society has been urged to prioritize dialogue in resolving conflicts and to avoid actions or words that could disrupt peace.

Young people, in particular, have been called upon to steer clear of unproductive groups that do not contribute to their personal growth and societal well-being, as peace remains the foundation of human life and development.

Tanzanians of all faiths were reminded of the importance of seeking God’s guidance in sustaining the nation’s peace.

Speakers highlighted how countries around the world have suffered severe social and economic consequences when peace was lost, despite numerous attempts to restore it.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Ms. Aneth Dickson Mwaikasu, a resident of Kigogo Fresh, Dar es Salaam, emphasized that peace is critical for national development and community prosperity.

She described it as a valuable and exemplary virtue that Tanzania is fortunate to enjoy, stressing the need to protect and nurture it.

“As human beings, we need God to ensure that the peace He has granted to our country continues to thrive. Equally important, we must come together and decide how to preserve peace because it cannot be bought, and once lost, restoring it is never easy,” Ms. Mwaikasu said.

The Tanzanian government views peace not just as an abstract idea but as a fundamental prerequisite for development.

This view aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which identify peace as the cornerstone for achieving all other objectives.

Peaceful societies are better positioned to reduce corruption, ensure equal justice, and foster accountability.

Maintaining peace, therefore, is not only a moral obligation but also an essential condition for Tanzania’s continued growth and prosperity.
