The Ministry of Energy, Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), and the Rural Energy Agency (REA) have been praised for designing and implementing innovative energy projects that improve access to electricity and clean energy across the country.

Subira Mgalu, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Minerals, made the remarks on February 12, 2026, in Dodoma during a training session on energy planning, investment, and project monitoring.

“Through your work, we have seen projects delivering tangible results. For example, rural electrification initiatives have connected homes and institutions in areas where infrastructure already existed but connections were previously lacking. Continue innovating to expand access and improve services,” said Mgalu.

The Committee also acknowledged the efforts of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in promoting Clean Cooking Energy, which has reached 23% adoption, with a target of 80% by 2034.

Members emphasized the need for the Ministry of Energy to engage the private sector further, ensuring increased contributions to energy projects, including the distribution of clean cooking energy.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, stated that electricity generation is steadily improving, currently reaching 4,437 megawatts, with a goal of 8,000 megawatts by 2030, sourced from a mix of solar, wind, and other energy sources.

He added that the Government plans to extend electricity to industrial zones to stimulate economic activity, increase production, and enhance the national economy.

Special plans are also underway to supply power to mining areas, facilitating more efficient operations.

Salome Makamba highlighted that public institutions such as schools, clinics, and water wells will be prioritized for electricity connections to ensure uninterrupted services.

The Government will continue collaborating with the private sector to implement energy projects nationwide.
