The National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) has taken a leading role in raising public awareness on environmental conservation and management at the 2026 Annual Housing Addresses Conference and Postal Technology Exhibition at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).
Speaking at the event, set to conclude on February 8, 2026, NEMC Chief Engineer, Mr. Jampyon Mbugi, said the proper use of residential addresses is a key tool for strengthening environmental management through the NAPA system.
He explained that the system enables NEMC to access critical information to guide planning, protection, and sustainable use of the environment.
“Residential addresses are more than location identifiers. They are vital instruments for urban planning and environmental governance, ensuring sustainable development that benefits both communities and nature,” said Mr. Mbugi.
He added that the initiative also aims to educate citizens on their legal and social responsibilities in safeguarding the environment.
NEMC Mining Engineer, Mr. Hezron Mwashibanda, highlighted that the council’s exhibition booth offers services such as noise pollution control, monitoring Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) compliance, and enforcement of environmental laws, fees, and levies across residential and commercial areas.
NEMC encouraged citizens and all environmental stakeholders to visit its booth and gain practical knowledge on environmental management and conservation.
