The Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, has arrived in Mtwara for a working visit aimed at accelerating natural gas development and strengthening energy security in the country.
He was received on February 27, 2026, by the Acting Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Abdallah Mwaipaya, together with leaders from Chama Cha Mapinduzi and government officials.
The minister is accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in charge of Petroleum and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio, and technical experts from the Ministry of Energy and institutions responsible for overseeing oil and gas operations.
While in Mtwara, Ndejembi will inspect and launch key natural gas projects, including the start of a new drilling campaign to increase production and exploration activities aimed at expanding reserves in the Mnazi Bay and Ntorya blocks.
The visit reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to implement the national strategy of expanding natural gas use across the country.
Increased production is expected to support reliable electricity generation, promote industrial growth, and expand access to clean energy for households.
Energy experts say enhanced gas development in southern Tanzania remains critical to sustaining economic growth, reducing reliance on imported fuels, and supporting the country’s long term development agenda.
