Nchemba inspects progress of Sinya–Namanga Clean Water Project

By Our Correspondent

Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on February 23, 2026 inspected the progress of the Sinya–Namanga Clean Water Supply Project in Sinya area, Longido District, Arusha Region, as the government intensifies efforts to expand access to safe and reliable water in water-stressed communities.

The project, which is expected to raise water production to 4.1 million litres per day upon completion, is designed to meet rising demand in Sinya and Namanga, where the existing Simba River source has increasingly failed to cope with population growth and expanding socio-economic activities.

The new scheme will provide clean and safe water for domestic use while also supporting livestock, a critical livelihood pillar in the area.

Implemented by M/s Zongii Contractors Co. Ltd, the project carries a total cost of TZS 13.5 billion, fully funded by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Officials overseeing the works said construction had reached 24.7 percent by January 2026, with key components progressing in line with the approved implementation plan.

During the inspection, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of timely completion, noting that water projects of this scale play a central role in improving public health, reducing the burden on women and children, and strengthening local economies, particularly in semi-arid border districts.

Once completed, the Sinya–Namanga water project is expected to significantly ease chronic shortages, enhance resilience to climate variability and support sustainable development in Longido District and neighbouring areas.
