The District Commissioner of Mbeya, Solomon Itunda, has commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for advancing major development initiatives in Mbeya District, particularly during the first 100 days of her second term.
Speaking on January 3, 2026, during the second-quarter Council meeting reviewing the 2025/2026 financial report, DC Itunda noted that government funding for the strategic road project from Igawa to Tunduma had increased from TZS 128 billion to TZS 185 billion.
“The funds have already been released, and in Uyole constituency, road construction is underway. Significant progress has been achieved in just 100 days, with numerous projects implemented nationwide,” he said.
DC Itunda also highlighted a major water project designed to improve access to clean water in Mbalizi Town and other areas of Mbeya City, sourced from the Kiwira River in Rungwe District.
“On behalf of the residents of Mbeya District, I thank the President for her continued commitment to our district. We have received tremendous support, and we are truly grateful,” he added.
He urged the District Council leadership to continue working with councilors to enhance local revenue collection, stressing that the success of development projects depends on locally generated funds.
District Executive Director Ms. Erica Yegella assured the DC that all projects would be efficiently managed without delays.
Meanwhile, Council Chairperson Aida Haule, who also serves as councilor for Utengule Usongwe Ward, said the council would closely monitor the implementation of all development initiatives, including those in Mbalizi Township.
Resident Bakari Juma praised the strategic four-lane road project, saying it has reduced traffic congestion, improved pedestrian safety, and minimized accidents in the area.
