Investors urged to set up mineral processing industries in Singida

Local and foreign investors in Singida Region have been urged to invest in mineral processing and value addition industries to tap into the region’s rich mineral resources, create jobs, and boost the local economy.

The call came from Singida Regional Resident Mineral Officer, Engineer Sabai Nyansiri, during a visit to small-scale miners at Matongo Mine in Ikungi Ward, Ikungi District.

He said the region offers significant opportunities in gold, copper, construction minerals, and gypsum extraction, supported by favorable government policies and an improved investment environment.

Engineer Nyansiri said establishing processing industries would increase the value of minerals before sale, create employment for youth and women, generate revenue for the government, and spur economic growth for local communities.

“Having mineral processing and value addition industries will create jobs, increase government revenue, and promote economic development for every citizen,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening mineral markets and promoting formal mineral trade, noting that these efforts have contributed significantly to the region’s revenue growth.

Singida was targeted to collect TZS 30 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year, up from TZS 24 billion in 2024/2025.

By December 2025, the region had already achieved 54% of this target, equivalent to TZS 16 billion.

The Regional Mineral Officer attributed these achievements to the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which has prioritized support for local small-scale miners and created an enabling environment for investment.

Matongo Mine Manager, Japhet Madusa, thanked the government for recognizing the role of small-scale miners and urged continued support through modern mining equipment and improved road infrastructure.

He added that the mine continues to engage the surrounding community by providing jobs for local youth and contributing construction materials to Matongo Secondary School, the village office, and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) office efforts that support social development in the area.
