The Government has commended the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) for leading digital transformation, strengthening research and development, and rolling out strategic reforms that support Tanzania’s long-term development agenda under the National Vision 2025–2050.

The commendation was delivered by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr Laurent Luswetula (MP), on behalf of the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), during IAA’s 27th Graduation Ceremony (Second Round) held at Ngurdoto Hotel in Arusha.

Mr Luswetula said IAA’s sustained investment in digital systems, research and academic innovation has positioned the institution as a critical contributor to national development.

He noted that the college continues to produce skilled professionals in finance, accounting, economics, taxation, business administration, banking, procurement and supply chain management, insurance, tourism and information and communication technology.

He said these professionals play a central role in government revenue mobilisation, public financial management, private sector growth, financial institutions and the implementation of development projects, adding that IAA graduates have helped promote accountability, transparency and financial discipline across sectors.

“IAA has consistently demonstrated excellence in preparing competent human resources who meet labour market needs and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our national economy,” Mr Luswetula said.

He also praised the institution for modernising teaching and learning through technology while expanding research and professional consultancy, describing digital transformation as a key driver of economic growth and improved social services, particularly education.

The Deputy Minister urged postgraduate students and graduates to ensure their research addresses pressing national challenges, including public finance management, inclusive growth, employment creation, innovation and effective use of technology.

He said research should inform sound policies, evidence-based decision-making and sustainable development.

Mr Luswetula reaffirmed the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to creating an enabling environment for inclusive economic growth.

He said finance, accounting, economics, banking, business and project management remain critical pillars in ensuring national resources are efficiently mobilised, planned, utilised and controlled with transparency and accountability.

He added that the Ministry of Finance will continue to support higher learning institutions aligned with the country’s vision of building a modern, knowledge-based economy through conducive financial and policy frameworks that strengthen strategic programmes and impactful research.

IAA Governing Council Chairperson Dr Mwamini Tulli said the institution is committed to producing competent and innovative graduates by investing in qualified academic staff and strengthening participatory teaching and learning methods.

She said IAA has distinguished itself as a centre that nurtures professionals capable of analysing and addressing real societal challenges.

She noted that the quality of IAA’s postgraduate graduates reflects curricula that respond to labour market demands, technological change and socio-economic transformation, while equipping students with critical thinking and leadership skills.

IAA Rector Prof Eliamani Sedoyeka said the institution is continuously enhancing curricula, teaching methods and assessment systems to align with national policies and the Development Vision 2025–2050.

He said IAA has also prioritised staff development, with 115 lecturers enrolled in PhD programmes locally and abroad in the 2025/2026 academic year to match the growing number of postgraduate students.

The graduation ceremony saw 2,250 students awarded postgraduate degrees, including 1,369 men (60.8 per cent) and 881 women (39.2 per cent), across 15 disciplines ranging from accounting, finance and economics to business administration, information technology, leadership, procurement and supply chain management, education management, human resources, and peace and security.
