Tanzania is intensifying efforts to expand its avocado exports to Europe, with a high-level delegation leading the charge at Fruit Logistica 2026, one of the world’s largest international trade fairs for fruits and vegetables.
The delegation is headed by Tanzanian Ambassador to Germany, Hassani Iddi Mwamweta, and includes Njombe Regional Commissioner Anthony Mtaka and Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) Executive Director Saleh Saad Mohamed.
The team represents Tanzanian farmers and agribusinesses at the Berlin event, held from February 3 to 6, 2026.
Ambassador Mwamweta said Tanzania’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to commercial agriculture and value-chain development, particularly for high-demand crops such as avocados.
“Germany and the wider European market present a significant opportunity for Tanzanian horticultural products. This exhibition allows us to showcase our quality produce and build long-term trade partnerships,” he said.
The delegation is leveraging the four-day event to identify new export markets, expand networks with international buyers and investors, and learn about the latest innovations in agribusiness and produce handling.
Over 40 Tanzanian companies are participating, working closely with the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA), and the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB).
The showcase aims to highlight Tanzania’s growing capacity in fruit and vegetable production, quality assurance, and export readiness.
Fruit Logistica attracts more than 2,600 companies from 151 countries, providing a strategic platform for countries like Tanzania to strengthen their presence in competitive global markets.
Njombe, a leading avocado-producing region, is expected to benefit significantly as engagement with European buyers grows, boosting farmers’ incomes and cementing Tanzania’s reputation in international horticulture trade.
