The Government has recognized the efforts of innovators developing materials and technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-powered vehicles, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Richard Muyungi, has said.
Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders from the Tanzania Electric Vehicle Association (TAEMA) and the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) in Dar es Salaam, Dr. Muyungi emphasized the need for sustainable strategies to expand electric vehicle services across the country.
He urged stakeholders to seize the opportunity presented by Tanzania’s growing electricity supply, particularly from the Nyerere Hydropower Dam, to increase the use of electric vehicles in public transport.
“We need you, stakeholders in the electric vehicle transport sector, to leverage the reliable electricity supply. Your efforts will play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable transport,” he said.
Dr. Muyungi also lauded COSTECH for its contribution to combating climate change, particularly through research programs such as the Climate Change Research Program.
He encouraged the commission to continue investing in climate adaptation technologies to strengthen the country’s knowledge base in addressing environmental challenges.
The meeting highlighted the Government’s commitment to supporting innovation and sustainable transport solutions as part of its broader agenda to fight climate change and promote a greener economy.
