The government, through the Office of the Registrar of Sports Associations, has officially approved amendments to the constitution of Simba Sports Club, opening a new chapter in the management and investment framework of one of Tanzania’s oldest and most prominent football clubs.

The approval, announced on February 18, 2026, comes after the completion of a legal process that began late last year.

This follows directives from the Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Paul Makonda, issued on February 16, 2026, urging timely completion of the constitutional review in accordance with legal requirements.

Speaking to journalists, the Registrar of Sports Associations, Advocate Abel Ngilangwa, said the amendments were discussed and approved by the club’s General Assembly of Members on November 30, 2025, before being formally submitted to the government for scrutiny and approval.

“The initial draft was submitted on December 10, 2025, and underwent several revisions following legal guidance from the Registrar’s office. After refining key provisions, the final version was submitted on February 5, 2026, and has now received official approval,” Ngilangwa explained.

Among the key improvements is the formal recognition of Simba Sports Club Company Limited, which will manage the club’s commercial and operational activities in compliance with the Companies Act.

The revised constitution also clarifies the ownership structure: shares will be held jointly between members, represented through the Board of Trustees, and external investors, with at least 51% of shares remaining under member ownership, in line with the National Sports Council (BMT) regulations.

Additionally, the amendments strengthen the governance of the Board of Trustees, specifying that it will comprise five to seven members responsible for managing club assets on behalf of members, while the General Assembly retains authority to appoint or remove trustees.

Ngilangwa emphasized that the government is satisfied the amendments comply with the National Sports Council Act, enhance good governance, transparency, and accountability, and do not compromise the safety or unity of members or the wider community.

With this approval, Simba Sports Club’s constitution is now officially recognized by the government, and the club is expected to implement it in accordance with the law, regulations, and General Assembly decisions.

The Registrar called on members and stakeholders to respect the approved changes to ensure the club continues to thrive peacefully, with unity and greater success both on and off the field.
