Finance Minister launches mobile TRA offices to boost tax service delivery

The Minister for Finance, Khamis Mussa Omar, has launched two mobile tax offices aimed at bringing services of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) closer to taxpayers, particularly traders operating in areas with limited access to digital infrastructure.

The mobile offices, officially unveiled in the commercial hubs of Mwenge and Tegeta in Dar es Salaam, are specially equipped vehicles that will be deployed across the country to provide on-the-spot tax services.

They are designed to assist taxpayers who face challenges using TRA’s electronic systems due to poor or unavailable internet connectivity.

The two vehicles form part of a fleet of 10 mobile offices procured by the Government through the Ministry of Finance to strengthen outreach, improve compliance and enhance engagement between TRA and taxpayers, especially small and medium-scale traders.

Addressing wananchi and taxpayers during the launch, Minister Omar encouraged the public to make full use of the mobile offices for various tax-related services, including receiving guidance on proper and voluntary tax compliance.

He said the Sixth Phase Government recognises taxpayers as key partners in national development, noting that the investment reflects the Government’s commitment to improving efficiency, accessibility and convenience in public service delivery.

“The Government is investing in practical and modern tools that make tax services more accessible to citizens. These mobile offices are intended to ease compliance and strengthen voluntary tax payment,” the minister said.

Responding to views and suggestions from citizens, Minister Omar said that under the directive of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Government plans to increase funds channelled through PMO-RALG for loans to women, youth and people with special needs from the current 10 percent to 15 percent.

He said the proposal is expected to be included in the 2026/27 National Budget, which will be presented to Parliament in June this year, adding that part of the additional allocation will be used to improve business-supporting infrastructure, including markets.

The Finance Minister welcomed positive feedback from wananchi on the improving relationship between TRA and taxpayers, calling for continued cooperation and trust.

He urged citizens to sustain voluntary tax compliance, stressing that domestic revenue collection remains critical in enabling the Government to effectively implement development programmes and deliver essential services to the public.
