The Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, has handed over 72 new vehicles to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in a major step aimed at strengthening taxpayer services, expanding field operations and improving revenue collection across the country.

The vehicles, purchased at a cost of Sh24.8 billion, were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the Tax College in Dar es Salaam.

The new fleet is expected to enhance TRA’s ability to reach taxpayers more efficiently, particularly in business centres and remote areas, while improving compliance and service delivery.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Omar said the government remains committed to supporting TRA by addressing key operational needs that are essential for effective tax administration.

He noted that improved mobility would enable the authority to serve taxpayers better, strengthen supervision and increase domestic revenue to finance national development priorities.

“The government’s main objective is to enhance revenue collection while improving the performance of TRA. These vehicles should be used responsibly and well maintained so that they deliver the intended results for the benefit of citizens,” he said.

The minister added that the government would continue improving the overall environment for taxpayer services by modernising systems and strengthening communication channels to ensure services are provided in a timely, transparent and efficient manner.

TRA Board Chairperson Uledi Mussa commended the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for its continued support through the Ministry of Finance, saying the investment reflects strong political will to empower the authority to effectively discharge its mandate.

He added that government support, including the recent recruitment of additional staff, has strengthened TRA’s capacity to improve compliance and service delivery nationwide.

TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda said the vehicles are an important working tool that will significantly improve outreach to taxpayers.

He pledged that the authority would ensure the vehicles are used efficiently to enhance services and support revenue growth.

He further noted that TRA would continue strengthening cooperation with the business community to promote a stable and predictable tax administration system across the country, in line with President Samia’s vision of bringing public services closer to citizens and ensuring taxpayers are served fairly and efficiently.
