The Attorney General of Tanzania, Hamza S. Johari, held high-level discussions with Singapore’s Ambassador to Tanzania, His Excellency Douglas Foo, at the Attorney General’s satellite office in Dar es Salaam.

During the meeting, the two leaders explored ways to strengthen legal cooperation between their offices, focusing on Tanzania’s potential signing and ratification of the Singapore Convention on Mediation, digital laws, and the regulation of artificial intelligence.

They also discussed avenues for establishing formal collaboration between the Attorney General’s Office of Tanzania and its Singaporean counterpart.

Johari highlighted the need to enhance the skills of government lawyers so they can effectively navigate the evolving landscape of global trade, investment, technology, and the economy.

He noted that with growing commerce and investment, disputes are inevitable, and Tanzania must adopt alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to reduce litigation costs and delays in courts.

“The Attorney General’s Office is committed to learning and applying modern approaches to dispute resolution, including mediation under the Singapore Convention,” he said.

Ambassador Foo, on his part, expressed Singapore’s readiness to support Tanzania in legal reforms, sharing Singapore’s expertise in areas such as digital law, personal data protection, and anti-corruption measures.

Both sides agreed to draft a detailed work plan to guide future cooperation and ensure the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting.

Johari also thanked Ambassador Foo for his continued engagement, noting that this visit follows his previous engagement with the Attorney General’s Office last year.
