The African Union Special Envoy on Women, Peace, and Security, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, has held talks with Neema Lugangira, Secretary-General of Women Political Leaders (WPL), to strengthen collaboration in advancing women’s leadership across Africa.
Speaking after the meeting in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Mulamula said she was pleased to meet Ms. Lugangira in her office and discuss strategies for promoting women’s participation in politics and leadership.
“I am happy to meet Neema Lugangira, currently serving as Secretary-General of WPL. I congratulated her on this important position and pledged my support in implementing her duties. I have known her from our time together in the Tanzanian Parliament. She is hardworking and committed to progress, and I believe she will make a significant impact for women,” Ambassador Mulamula said.
During the discussions, the two leaders explored ways to enhance women’s roles in peacebuilding, security, and humanitarian efforts. They agreed to cooperate closely through their respective offices to ensure practical outcomes.
Ms. Lugangira, in turn, praised Ambassador Mulamula for her appointment and longstanding service to African women. She pledged her full support and collaboration in advancing the envoy’s mandate.
The meeting highlights growing efforts to empower women in leadership and politics, reinforcing Tanzania’s commitment to gender equality and active participation of women in decision-making across Africa.
