Rukwa Region scores big in road infrastructure development

By The Respondents Reporter

Rukwa Region has recorded major successes in road construction and rehabilitation over the past four years, thanks to a significant rise in government funding.

Speaking at the Annual Roads Meeting at the University of Dar es Salaam Library Conference Hall, TARURA Regional Manager Engineer Chacha Mwita Moseti said the region’s budget jumped from TZS 5 billion to TZS 13.5 billion since the sixth-phase government assumed office.

“This increase has allowed us to upgrade many roads from gravel to paved surfaces, improve dirt roads to gravel, and even construct tarred roads in hilly areas,” Engineer Moseti said.

“We have also built numerous stone bridges to ensure roads remain accessible and residents can move easily.”he added

He noted that Rukwa, known for its agricultural productivity, now benefits from smoother transport of farm produce.

“Previously, farmers struggled to bring crops to markets, but with these improvements, their produce reaches buyers efficiently,” he said.

On the first 100 days of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s second term, Engineer Moseti revealed that TARURA signed 23 contracts worth TZS 4.8 billion. Contractors have already started work, and projects are ongoing.
