President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has urged the National Identification Authority (NIDA) to speed up service delivery for investors entering Zanzibar, emphasizing that efficient registration services are key to accelerating economic growth.
The call came during a briefing at State House – Zanzibar, where NIDA Director General, Mr. James Kaji, presented a report on the Authority’s performance in citizen registration and identification.
President Mwinyi expressed satisfaction with NIDA’s progress, noting that over 94 percent of Zanzibaris are now registered in the national system and have received identification cards, which are increasingly being used across public and private services.
“I urge NIDA to strengthen services for investors coming to Zanzibar. Quick and efficient processing will not only facilitate investment but also boost our economic development,” he said.
Mr. Kaji highlighted that NIDA’s offices are performing well in registering eligible citizens and outlined plans to expand services.
New registration offices are set to open in Magharibi A, Micheweni, and Kusini districts, alongside smaller offices in Tumbatu – Unguja, and Kojani – Pemba, to bring services closer to residents and streamline registration processes.
The Director General also thanked Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, for providing funds to acquire 145 vehicles, which will enhance registration and identification operations across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
He commended President Mwinyi for his cooperation, which has enabled the NIDA Zanzibar Coordination Office to fully implement its mandate.
The President’s directive comes as Zanzibar continues to position itself as an attractive destination for investment, with streamlined processes expected to encourage more investors to contribute to the islands’ economic growth.
