Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has met with Japan’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Yoichi Mikami, to discuss ways of strengthening economic cooperation, development projects and investment between the two countries.
The talks were held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s Office in Mlimwa, Dodoma, where Dr Nchemba expressed the government’s appreciation to Japan for its continued support in implementing key infrastructure and social development projects in Tanzania.
He singled out Japan-supported projects such as the Arusha–Holili road, the Kigoma Port, agricultural development programmes and the provision of medical equipment aimed at improving maternal and child health services.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all these projects are implemented efficiently and completed as planned for the benefit of the people,” Dr Nchemba said.
The Prime Minister also used the meeting to convey Tanzania’s congratulations to Japan’s Prime Minister, Ms Sanae Takaichi, following her appointment in October 2025, describing the milestone as historic for Japan.
He stressed that Tanzania values its long-standing partnership with Japan and is keen to further deepen cooperation for mutual benefit.
On his part, Ambassador Mikami commended the Tanzanian government for the improved pace of implementation of social development projects that had previously stalled. He said that of the 79 projects that faced delays, only 16 remain outstanding since September 2024.
He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to continue supporting Tanzania’s development agenda, noting that bilateral cooperation between the two countries has remained strong for more than six decades.
