By The Respondents Reporter

Tanzania has joined the rest of the world in welcoming the New Year 2026 in an atmosphere of peace, unity and renewed hope, as millions of citizens took part in fireworks displays, cultural and religious celebrations, as well as family and community gatherings to mark the start of the new year.

In Dar es Salaam, festive activities were evident across several parts of the city, with large crowds gathering in public spaces, including the popular Coco Beach in Kinondoni District.

People of all ages were seen relaxing along the beach and enjoying the celebrations, as police officers conducted regular patrols to maintain security and ensure the safety of revelers.

Many citizens expressed gratitude for the peace that continues to define the country, noting its importance for personal well-being and national development.

Speaking at Coco Beach, Amina Seleman said the new year presented an opportunity for reflection and unity.

“We are grateful to enter a new year. The past year came with different experiences, but we thank God for the progress we have made and, most importantly, for the peace we continue to enjoy. As Tanzanians, we must value this peace, protect it and firmly reject violence,” she said.

Despite isolated calls circulating on social media encouraging demonstrations on New Year’s Day, calm and order prevailed across the country.

Tanzanians chose to ignore the calls and instead celebrated the arrival of 2026 peacefully, reaffirming the nation’s long-standing culture of harmony, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.
